Kids and Classical Music

Our house is ALWAYS filled with the rhythmic sounds of music.  We don't discriminate at all when it comes to our tunes.  World music, reggae, alternative, heavy metal, jazz, folk, rock n' roll, and even classical music find their way into our musical heart and in our home.  Yes, I did say classical.  Everything from Liszt to Bach; We rock'um all!!   I'll admit, I like classical music alot, but I don't love it.  Now my daughter, she loves it.  She may not know the name of the composer or the symphony, but she does know what she adores. One symphony that she adores is  Beethoven's no.5 .  She will request to hear it by name and will confidently tell us it's number 8( it's a disc ).  As the music plays, she will quietly hum the tune. She tells me that she can see the music in her head. I believe her.  I'm jealous.   I wonder what it looks like?  Is it colorful? I wonder if it looks the way it makes me feel?    But I digress.  I'm happy for her because those moments she is content to be still. She is content to feel the music, see the music and be swept away in its beauty.  Lucky, lucky girl!

I found some really cool websites that might be helpful for you mini composer:
I also read a fantastic article on how-to introduce your little ones to classical music.  Great article with tons of fantastic ideals for piquing the interest of your bambinos.  My son is not a great classic music lover, but he LOVES Tom and Jerry.  Ton of the old cartoons like Woody Wood Pecker, Bugs Bunny and Disney have a ton of cartoons which incorporate classical music.

Here's a little something to get you in the mood: Tom and Jerry Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody No.2

We have a two-pack of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf and Saint-Saëns's Carnival of the Animals Unit Studies from Music in Motion. My kids and the other kids in the co-op we were in at the time loved them.

I LOVE classical music. I started playing the violin at 8 years old and I played all the way through college. I miss it a lot.

TL-Thanks for stopping by and the fantastic recommendations.

Keya- You should pick it the violin again. You're kids will be so thrilled and it'll be like seeing an old friend for you.
