I wanted to introduce a DIY monthly post that I will introduce on Friday. I will cover do-it-yourself, inexpensive recipes for hair and body. I wanted to share because for financial reasons, our family had to start implementing some serious cutbacks. In an effort to cut back, I've reluctantly given up most of my beauty staples: toner, cleansers, deep conditioner and moisturizer.
{ wiping away the tears...bahwaaaa }
So for the last 4 months, I've been playing kitchen chemist and coming up with concoctions of butters, oils, herbs and vinegar.....Yes, vinegar!! It's not just for salads anymore!! I can honestly say, I've officially converted to the granola side of the fence. It's crunchy, delightful and it feels so freaking right!! Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not going green for any other reason than lack of moola, but that's reason enough for me. Thankfully, I'm extremely happy with the results. My skin looks great and my hair feels lovely.
FYI: I'm not a professional, herbalist, or aromatherapist. I'm just a mom who homeschools her kiddos. My time and money are limited, but I still want to look cute. Let's be honest, when you look good, you feel good. The more I use my natural concoction, the better I feel. Seriously, that's all the convincing I need. The first recipe that I tried was lavender vinegar toner. I'm so pleased with the results that I wanted to share with my peeps. All of the recipes are really simple and most of the items you need can be found in your home or at your local grocery store.
The first thing we will learn is how to infuse white vinegar and oils with herbs.
What you'll need for Friday:
- Clean bottle( up cycle spaghetti sauce jars work great )
- White Vinegar
- Oil of choice( Soy oil is great and inexpensive)
- Herbs of choice.( or citrus peels: oranges, lemons or grapefruit )
- 2-6 weeks.
Can't wait until Friday.

Well, I'm a true blue, tree-hugging, hippy-dippy, green goblin . . . and I can't wait until Friday. ;-)
